Monrovia-Montserrado County District #11 Representative who is currently an executive backed Speaker of the House of Representatives was recently faced by the reality of not obeying the laws of Liberia.
Rep. Richard Nagbe Koon paid a visit at the Dixville Public School in Montserrado County to get a firsthand knowledge about the renovation of that government school.
In the classroom, the teacher of the grade was teaching the kids the law of Liberia, value of respecting them.
On the blackboard, the teacher wrote, “Topic Obey the Laws of The Country.” Part of the lesson says, “Every citizen has the responsibility to obey the laws of the Country.”
It furthered that it does not matter what position or nation that citizen is [are] in. Rep. Koon and some of his colleagues have been at each other’s throats in a fight to remove embattled House Speaker, J. Fonati Koffa.
The lawmakers were at a deadlock over the removal plans when Koffa ran to court over actions that included removing him as Speaker, holding sessions outside the official House Chambers, suspending several lawmakers, reversing committees formed by him Koffa, and reconstituting new committees.
The court ruled stating, “Wherefore and in view of the foregoing, any sittings or actions by members of the Legislature not in conformity with the intent of Articles 33 and 49 of the Constitution are ultra vires. Hence, members of the House of Representatives are to conduct themselves accordingly…”
Koon, who some of his colleagues are yet to consider as Speaker of that body, was in Dixville Public admonishing students to obey the laws of Liberia.
On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the same day he visited the school, Rep. Yekeh Kolubah again refused to recognize Rep. Koon as the presiding officer of the House of Representatives something that made him, Rep. Koon to order the Sergeant-At-Arms of that body to forcefully put Rep. Kolubah of District #10 out of session.
Sinoe County District Three Representative, Alex S. Noah wrote on his page cycling the topic on the board and said, “Wow! The majority block Speaker visited a junior high school, pls see the Topic below. I can’t take this type of job.”
The post from Rep. Noah has attracted mixed views as some commentators write in favor of the Montserrado County District# 11 lawmaker, while on the other hand his supporters welcome the intervention of Koon in visiting the public school to ensure that it gets the needed facilities.
Also, Amb.AbubakrSidikieDukuly said, “Rep. Richard Koon recently went to visit an elementary school in Dixville, and when he entered the 3rd grade class, the students were writing a civil note with the topic: “Obey the laws of the country.” Imagine this.
