Liberia News: Rep. Flomo ‘Exposes’ Majority Bloc

…Says He Was Offered US$50,000 To Join Anti Koffa Bloc

Liberia-Montserrado County District #13 Representative, Edward Papee Flomo has revealed that he was offered the amount of US$50,000 to join the majority bloc seeking the removal of Speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa.

In a four minutes circulating on social media, the Montserrado County District #13 lawmaker told Journalists that he was offered 50,000 to join the anti Koffa bloc, but he refused the offer. He reiterated his allegations against Vice President Jeremiah Koung and Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah that they are behind the ousting of Speaker Koffa.

Rep. Flomo disclosed that the US$50,000 was offered to him on Friday night but he rejected it saying, “I can’t hold that money.” Flomo added that he did the recording in his vehicle to expose the alleged US$15,000 bribe to some of the lawmakers to unseat Speaker Koffa.

He said he was offered the amount by the entire team seeking the removal of Speaker Koffa headed by Vice President Koung and Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah. “Jeremiah Koung and Thomas Fallah are the ones distributing the money to lawmakers,” Rep. Flomo further revealed.

He said Deputy Speaker Fallah instructed one of the Senators to call him to receive the US$50,000 but failed to name the Senator allegedly involved. He described VP Koung and Deputy Speaker Fallah as criminals.

“The money they are using to bribe lawmakers could be used to rehabilitate the LPRC and Doe Community roads and other roads in the country,” he added saying the money has been submitted to the Liberia Anti-corruption Commission (LACC) for investigation.

He said they will call on the United States Embassy to sanction the Vice President and the Deputy Speaker for corruption because according to him, they are involved in so many criminal activities. He said few Senators from the Liberian Senate are involved in the ongoing plot to remove Speaker Koffa. 

Rep. Flomo also mentioned that a Senator whom he failed to name called him to take the money and join the anti Koffa bloc. The Montserrado lawmaker wants the Americans to Sanction Koung for alleged criminality.

Recently, forty-seven members of the House of Representatives signed and read a petition to remove Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa as Speaker of that august body. Following their presentation, the Representatives scheduled a new election for the speakership to take place.

The lawmakers have been having separate sessions in the Koint Chamber of the Legislature refusing to sit under the gavel of Speaker Koffa. On the other hand, the House Speaker has vehemently ruled out any plan to resign saying that resignation is not an option. Speaker has taken the matter to the Supreme Court of Liberia to seek redress over plans to remove him as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
