Liberia News: Pres. Boakai Pats Labor Minister On Back

Liberia-President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has lauded Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah for his ”commitment and vigilance in ensuring that concessions operate in line with the Decent Work Act,” a Labor Ministry release said.

The release quoted a letter addressed to Minister Kruah, as acknowledging receipt of an October 8, 2024 report on inspection at Bea Mountain, Western Cluster and Arcelormittal Concessions facilities, respectively by the Minister.

In his letter to the President, the Labour Minister detailed outcome of his tour of major concessions sites, where, in some instances, they made recommendations and even took decisions in the interest of our Liberian workers.

President Boakai urged the Labor Minister to remain steadfast in the issuance of work permit for employees of casinos, clubs and other entertainment centers and the implementation of your duties in general.

According to the release, President Boakai expressed satisfaction in the Labour Ministry ‘Student Vacation Job Program’, saying: ” The Student Vacation Job Program is particularly laudable as it would help to instill a sense of work ethic into the students while providing them an income.”

Minister Kruah and team are expected to resume the ongoing nation-wide labour assessment tour to major concessions operating in Nimba County shortly.

At the same time, the Inspector-General of the Ministry of Labour Charles Brown and team, through the Minister’s directive, have commenced a vigorous and thorough inspection of all casinos, clubs and other entertainment centers across the country, to ensure strict compliance with labour regulations, mainly obtainment or renewal of Alien Work Permit.
