Monrovia-Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah has described the suspension of members of the Majority Bloc as joke.
Representative Kolubah said the Bloc, headed by Richard Nabge Koon, does not have the legal right to suspend any member of the 55th Legislature, adding that it lacks legitimacy. His response follows a Supreme Court ruling in the House impact that Richard Nabge Koon and team are proceeding unlawfully, something that has brought that honorable body to some public criticism.
On Tuesday, March 11, 2024, the House Majority bloc suspended Representative Yekeh Kolubah for 30 Session Days. The decision follows a report submitted by Representative James Kolleh on behalf of the House Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration.
The report, which recommended the suspension, was based on a complaint filed by River Gee County Representative Johnson Williams. In the complaint, Representative Williams accused Representative Kolubah of exhibiting rude behaviour toward the current leadership of the House.
A majority of lawmakers voted in favour of the suspension. However, Representatives Matthew Joe, Emmanuel Dahn, and Sumo Mulbah voted against the decision.
At the same time, a motion of reconsideration was filed by Lofa County District 4- Rep. Gizzie Kollince seeking to have the suspension of Representative Yekeh Kolubah lifted but minutes after the motion, he declined the motion for reconsideration, thereby allowing the 30-session days suspension—without pay and benefits-to stand for the tough-talking lawmaker.
