Monrovia-The Minority Bloc loyal to embattled Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa appeared to have harboring some sort of suspicion with the Majority Bloc overture of mulling the need to end the leadership crisis that has beclouded the House of Representatives through a reconciliatory meeting.
Ahead of what might happen as result of the Supreme Court of Liberia’s March 14 (tomorrow) conference with the belligerent parties, one party appears to be wanting to tune down the pitch of tension in favor of finding solution to the problem.
The Court has since invited the concerned parties to the conflict on the strength of the bill information petition filed by the minority bloc under the aegis of the Rule of Law Caucus, an appellation that is in commensuration with the group’s support for speaker Koffa who is widely regarded as the legitimate speaker of the House of Representatives, though the Majority Bloc elected Speaker Richard Koon seems to be enjoying all the privileges associated with the office of Speaker.
The Executive Branch has since recognized Koon as Speaker in what appeared as wanton snubbing of the rule of law President pledged to uphold during his tenure as President of Liberia.
However, the Spokesman of the Rule of Law Caucus has officially announced that the group’s decision to reject the invitation extended by the Majority Bloc for a “reconciliatory” meeting.
Representative Dixon Seboe of Montserrado County 16th District is quoted as characterizing the gathering as an insincere effort lacking any real intent for reconciliation and a façade amid the group’s arbitrary suspension of one of their members, Representative Yekeh Kolubah.
Majority Bloc recently suspended firebrand and tough-talking for 30 sessions as a penalty for voicing his opinions on issues of relevance to the ongoing division and stalemate at the House.
He maintained that suspending Rep. Kolubah is an infringement of the fundamental rights of freedom of speech and expression enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic.
The Rule of Law Caucus, in a statement, condemned the unconstitutional suspension of Rep. Kolubah, labeling the action as illegal and undemocratic and further escalates the ongoing tensions within the House of Representatives.
Rep. Seboe who appeared on Bana FM also weighed in on the Bill of Information interpretation tomorrow, expressing the Caucus anticipation and the importance of a straightforward and clear interpretation.
He said the Caucus remains steadfast in its advocacy for accountability and adherence to the rule of law.
