Kakata City-The city of Kakata and other towns and villages in Margibi are on the edge and in fear in the wake of last weekend’s jail break with inmates who include hardcore criminals roaming the entire landscape, seeking perfect abode from law enforcement officers who are out to re-arrest them.
Following earlier media reports about massive jailbreak in Kakata, the government through the Ministry of Justice Tuesday confirmed the information, and put the number of inmates involved at forty seven (47).
The Ministry of Justice blamed the unfortunate situation which poses serious security threat to residents of Margibi and surrounding environments on breach in the prison’s security system, after initial investigations.
A release issued to the effect quoted the Ministry as working closely with the Liberia National Police and the prison authorities to determine the exact cause of the breach and take appropriate action to prevent such incidents in the future.
“The Ministry of Justice is deeply concerned about this incident and is taking all necessary measures to ensure the recapture of the escaped inmates,” the statement said in an effort to reassure residents and alley their fears.
In the wake of terrifying development, the LNP has deployed additional officers to assist in the search and apprehension of the escaped inmates, and called on the public to remain calm and to report any information that may lead to the recapture of the inmates.
The Ministry also reminded and warned the public that harboring or aiding escaped inmates is a criminal offense and anyone found guilty will face the full force of the law.
More besides, it called on the escaped inmates to surrender themselves to the nearest police station or to the prison authorities to avoid facing additional charges. The Ministry of Justice will not condone any lawlessness and will ensure that justice is served.
The Ministry also urged the public to continue to support the Government’s efforts in maintaining law and order in the Liberian society.
