Liberia-Managing Director Mo Ali said most homes in central Monrovia are not connected to the water grid of the LWSC due to lack of capacity to connect homes.
Mr. Ali told a local radio station Tuesday that it will be vital for lawmakers to use the government entities responsible for providing service for the public.
The LWSC boss was responding to Representative Emmanuel Dahn of District #7, Montserrado County who informed residents that he would use some of his $45,000 allotted to him for vehicle to address constraints they are undergoing, particularly the lack of safe drinking water and toilet facilities.
According to Rep. Dahn, his team will provide boreholes for rock hill communities, including Mamba Point.
Borehole drilling and lining services are essential for creating reliable and long-lasting water well. Boreholes are deep, narrow holes drilled into the ground to access groundwater. Lining the borehole with a casing helps to prevent collapse and contamination.
Rep. Dahn said the team is working to renovate all public latrines in the district that are not being functional, especially in West Point Township.
However, LWSC Boss Ali said boreholes will not be able to provide service for all of the residents in the district, stressing “if the lawmaker ensures that the LWSC has more funding, it will be able to connect every house within the community with water.”
“Most of the public toilets in West Point need to be de-flushed, but it requires funding,” he said. He also emphasized that lawmakers need to look in the direction of increasing the entity’s allocation in the recast budget to enable cater to the water needs of residents.
