Liberia News: Lawmaker Detests Int’l Conspiracy

…Reminds Pres. Boakai

Liberia-Sinoe County Senator, Crayton Duncan has reminded President Boakai of the international community’s alleged conspiracy against aiding Liberia and other African countries to grow food for self-consumption.

The lawmaker’s statement follows President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s recent call to the global community to take swift and decisive action to address the growing food insecurity crisis, particularly in Africa during his keynote address at the World Food Forum to an audience of heads of state, development leaders, and international organizations in Rome, Italy.

But Senator Duncan stated that the forces suppressing the development of all African nations are mainly from the very international community from whom President Boakai is seeking such help.

Senator Ducan spoke Tuesday, October 15 in Plenary during the opening of the final sitting of the 1st Session of the 55th Legislature on Capitol Hill, Monrovia. The lawmaker added that the operation of the international community is familiar to President Boakai and as such, he should be cognizant of the situation.

Senator Duncan maintained that Liberia as one of the African countries will never be supported to grow sufficient rice, which is its staple food on grounds that the international community takes advantage of the situation to grow and supply their rice to the world market, including Liberia.

Ducan added that any attempt to assist the Liberian Government with the production of rice, will automatically stop the over US$200 million spent annually by Liberia on the importation of rice in the country.
