Liberia news: Kwakeh Multipurpose Women Agricultural Cooperative Embarks On Rice Cultivation In Rural Mont.

The Leadership of the Kwakeh Multipurpose Women Agricultural Cooperative has embarked on rice cultivation in Rural Montserrado County.

According to the Executive Director of the Cooperative Hawa Taigbailee, rice cultivation is intended to buttress government efforts in making Liberia a food-sufficient country and to empower rural women, especially single mothers.

Speaking to our reporter over the weekend, she disclosed that the Cooperative is also engaged in vegetable production and plans to include fishery. Madam Taigbailee asserted that more than 20 cooperative members are working voluntarily for now stressing that   they are committed to working on their   Kwakeh Multipurpose Women Agricultural Cooperative farm.

She also disclosed that the members of   the cooperative contributed to feeding themselves during the working days as a means of demonstrating ownership   and improving their lives through agricultural activities.

Madam Taigbailee used the interview to seek support from the Liberian Government and its development partners to invest in their rice cultivation project. She further disclosed with the needed support given to them, the cooperative will be in the position to produce more rice to support the government’s vision of improving food security through the Ministry of Agriculture.

Madam Taigbailee vows to empower rural inhabitants through training opportunities about 20 members have acquired and received materials to carry out their farming and they also work on the cooperative farm.

She expressed gratitude to members of the cooperative for the level of work and dedication toward achieving their objective of improving food security across the country if given the needed support. Madam Taigbailee is partially interested in the vision of President Joesph Boakai to improve agriculture and lift Liberians out of poverty.
