Monrovia-The Director of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) Col. G. Warsuwah Barvoul has issued a directive mandating all roadside gasoline sellers and “camp boys” to vacate their locations by January 15, 2025.
The LNFS Director said this mandate endeavors to mitigate fire hazards that have increasingly threatened communities across the nation. Col. Barvoul made this announcement during a press conference held at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
He emphasized that this measure is part of a broader strategy to safeguard citizens and properties from potential fire outbreaks. In addition to the evacuation order, Col. Barvoul reassured the public that findings from the recent fire incident at the Capitol Building, which occurred in the early hours of last Wednesday, will be released within a week.
The Liberia National Fire Service is currently collaborating with the Liberia National Police, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the National Water Management Agency to gather vital information regarding the cause of the fire.
Responding to concerns about another fire incident that occurred prior to Wednesday’s event, Col. Barvoul clarified that it was a result of electrical malfunctions. He underscored the importance of addressing these issues, stating, “Many of our fire incidents stem from electrical faults, which can often be prevented with proper precautions.”
To bolster the capabilities of the fire service, the government has allocated funds for the acquisition of six new fire trucks, two jeeps, and official uniforms. Col. Barvoul noted that these resources will not only enhance operational efficiency but also promote unity within the agency.
Col. Barvoul revealed plans to expand fire service operations by establishing substations throughout the country. These new stations are expected to facilitate quicker and more effective responses to emergencies, ultimately saving lives and property.
Col. Barvoul issued a safety advisory to citizens, urging them to turn off double-throw switches and disconnect electrical appliances before leaving their homes.
