…Of Using ‘Ill-gotten Funds To Remove Speaker Koffa

Liberia-Former President and political leader of the Congress for Democratic Change, George Manneh Weah has accused President Joseph Nyumah Boakai of using what he terms as ill-gotten funds from the national coffers to influence the unjust removal of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, J. Fonati Koffa.

The former Liberian leader said it has come to his attention that the Unity Party-led government under President Boakai is making a concerted and criminal effort to undermine the democratic and constitutional institutions through such means.

He said this ‘blatant act of political chicanery’ not only threatens the integrity of the country’s constitutional legislative process, but also sets a dangerous precedent for governance in our beloved nation.

“I want to make it unequivocally clear; such actions will not be tolerated. The attempt to manipulate the legislative branch for partisan gain is a direct affront to the principles of democracy and the will of the people,” former president Weah states.

He narrated that Speaker Koffa has served with dedication and integrity, and any effort to remove him illegally under the guise of political expediency is a desperate and cowardly tactic that must be condemned by all who value the rule of law.

Former president Weah has at the same time warned and urged members of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) legislative caucus to stand firmly against this ‘insidious plot.’

He furthered admonished them not to allow themselves to be swayed by pecuniary gains and the siren song of those who seek to destabilize the governance process of the country for their own selfish interests.

Mr. Weah argued that participation in this scheme will not only betray the trust of their constituents, but will also carry dire significant political consequences for their future within their party and in the eyes of the Liberian people.

He said they must remain steadfast in their commitment to democratic principles and the right of the people to choose their leaders without interference, and they should also remain vigilant and united in their resolve to protect their national institutions and defend the integrity of their democracy.
