Liberia News: Business as Usual Resurfaces
-Internal Affairs Minister Summons Employees To RIA To Welcome Pres. Boakai
By Perry B. Zordyu
Liberia-Internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin’s memo of Tuesday, instructing government employees to abandon their duties and proceed to the Roberts International Airport (RIA) to give President Joseph Nyuma Boakai a rousing triumphant welcome-home reception has been received with mixed-reactions.
Asking employees to leave work and assemble at the RIA, according to most Liberians, is the reincarnation of ‘doing business as usual’ the President promised to end during his inaugural address.
Like Presidents before him, President vowed not to countenance anything that has the semblance of repeating the same wrongful actions that undermined progress and the governance process.
But with just eight months in office, the once highly rated President Boakai and his officials are treading the same dangerous grounds of doing business the same ugly ways it has been before his ascendancy.
“Business As Usual” is on the increase contrary to what the President said,” remarked John Belleh.
Minister Nyumalin in a memo
Instructed government employees to leave duties and welcome back home President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and delegation from China.
As opposition, the Unity Party condemned and frowned on CDC regime for trucking people, employees of government to the Airport to welcome President Weah when returning home from a foreign visit.
“The action, which was criticized during the regime of former President George Weah, is now surfacing under the leadership of President Joseph Boakai who came to power to “rescue” Liberians,” stated Belleh.
Other Liberians have taken to their social media pages condemning said action by the current government which they believe serves as a stark contrast to campaign promises made against such style of governance.
