Liberia-President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has called for a robust legal framework in combating cybercriminal activities in the country.
President Boakai, inaugurating a Cybersecurity Conference at the Liberia Telecommunication Authority under the theme, “Secure Our World,” emphasized the need for legislative action to establish a robust legal framework to combat cybercriminal activities.
The Liberian leader acknowledged that cybercriminal activities have surged by over 70% in the past two decades, costing businesses more than US$2 billion in losses due to email-based attacks in 2023 alone.
“The passage of this bill is critical,” Boakai stated, urging the National Legislature to act promptly. He also highlighted the importance of integrating cybersecurity into institutional risk management strategies, calling on organizations to prioritize their digital security.

Recognizing the pivotal role of youth in shaping Liberia’s digital future, the President reiterated his commitment to empowering the next generation through the Digital Transformation Program, which aims to train 10,000 young Liberians in essential computer skills.
“The youths are smart, and I have no doubt they can pick up quickly,” he noted. He added that cybersecurity training is vital for defending Liberia’s digital infrastructure.
