Liberia-The Visitor to the University of Liberia, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is expected to launch the Doctorial Studies Program at the University.
According to Acting UL President, Prof. Dr. Al Hassan Conteh President Boakai will launch the Doctorial Studies Program today on the main campus of the University of Liberia.
Dr. Conteh disclosed that today is will be a very important day in the history of higher education and the University of Liberia as President Boakai who is the Visitor to the University will officially launch the Doctoral Studies program that will lead to the awarding of terminal degrees starting with health Sciences and educational administration.
Dr. Conteh noted that the theme of the Symposium to be launch is, “Strengthening Research innovation for Higher Education Transformation in Liberia.
The university has received the operational subsidy from the Government of Liberia in the tone of US$194,000 as final payment for the academic year 2023/2024 salaries for the month of September 2024 which has been paid in full.
Dr. Conteh disclosed that there’s an outstanding image for their adjunct Faculty that is the patterns of Liberian dollars in the tone of L$28.9 million. He said the administration is working hard to ensure that this payment is made before the resumption of the new academic year.
“We are undertaking a comprehensive review of our human resource manual of the university to ensure that all rules and regulations regarding Faculty and staff welfare promotion are approved by the Board of Trustees for implementation. We are also reviewing our graduate programs to ensure that they are logically related to our undergraduate programs as best practice appears at other universities in Africa and around the world,” Dr. Conteh noted.
Dr. Conteh emphasized that the goal of these exercises is to elevate the ranking of the university as a unique center of excellence in the next two decades.
The Acting President of the University of Liberia has provided key some updates on the status of the status of the University for the dissemination of accurate information to the public.
Prof. Dr. Al Hassan Conteh announced that the new academic year for 2024 will commence on 18th November, 2024. He disclosed that there will be graduate school examinations administered from the 7th of December 2024 first semester for the new academic year end in April 7 2025.
The administration of the University of Liberia has also done a comprehensive review of what is needed for the smooth resumption of the academic year according to Dr. Conteh.
He named some of the reviews of the UL activities as the setting up of classrooms, restrooms and internet connectivity. Dr. Conteh said the administration is still working on more developmental initiatives which will be in place before the resumption of the school year.
Dr. Conteh indicated that the University of Liberia had a successful commencement convocation for seven colleges and the professional schools and graduate program. He disclosed that during the commencement convocation, the administration of the University of Liberia graduated 2,000 and 20,192 students respectively.
He said among the graduates, 177 came from the Liberia College which is now the Amos Claudius Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities, 184 from Business College, 149 from the College of Education William V.S Tubman and College of Education, 417 from the T.J.R Faulkner College of Science and Technology, 292 from the William R. Tolbert College of Agriculture, 137 from the Engineering College, 32 from strass Sinjeh in Grand Cape Mounty County Vocational Campus and four from the Honor College.
Dr. Conteh said graduates put out by these colleges at the University of Liberia are highly qualified graduates who have the blessings of the UL administration.
