Liberia News: ANC Likens Boakai Govt to ‘Visionless Junta’
-Weighs on Legislative Turmoil and Calls for Adherence to Constitutional Norms
Liberia-Opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC) has weighed on in leadership turmoil at the House of Representatives that has left the country bruised politically and socially, referring to those behind removal of House Speaker as renegade bloc characterized by ruthlessness.
The ANC has been reticent on national issues since the inception of the President Joseph Boakai government.
According to the ANC, the renegade bloc behind Speaker Cllr. J. Fornati Koffa is acting under the aegis of a “visionless junta government” led by the Unity Party (JNB) administration.
ANC first expressed deep concerns over Justice Minister Cllr. Oswald Tweh’s erroneous interpretation of the Supreme Court’s ruling and the unlawful ousting of Speaker Koffa and condemned these recent developments as clear violations of both the Constitution and the procedural regulations governing the House of Representatives.
The party emphasized that the processes surrounding any leadership transitions must strictly follow the rule of law to maintain the integrity of Liberia’s democratic institutions.
The party further criticized the current administration for its detrimental actions that jeopardize national integrity and deter investment prospects.
They contend that such conduct severely undermines the government’s credibility in the eyes of both the international community and domestic stakeholders.
ANC called for all citizens and involved stakeholders to reject these unlawful actions and to advocate for a governance model that prioritizes democratic principles and the rule of law.
The party’s leaders urge the public to remain vigilant and engaged, asserting that a robust response is necessary to uphold Liberia’s constitutional values and promote a stable and inclusive political environment.
