MONROVIA-Impeccable pieces of information gathered by the New Republic Newspaper have confirmed that the former Vice President and Standard Bearer of the Opposition Unity Party, (UP), Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai, is considering picking the current Political Leader of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction, (MDR) and Senator of Nimba County, Jeremiah Koung as running-mate in the impending Presidential and Legislative Elections scheduled for October 10, 2023.
According to the sources, Ambassador Boakai is expected to announce Senator Koung on April 8, 2023.
Appearing on local radio in Monrovia, the Assistant Secretary for Press and Public Affairs of the Unity Party (UP), Nior Gibson mentioned that the Nimba County Lawmaker has been supporting the former Vice President for a long period of time.
Gibson urged Members and Supporters of UP to accept whosoever Ambassador Boakai chooses.
He mentioned that the UP Standard Bearer is thoroughly reviewing candidates who are yearning to serve as running mates.
Recently, the Secretary-General of the former Ruling Unity Party (UP) Amos Tweh responded to news that has been lingering on Social Media stressing that the UP Standard Bearer has chosen a running-mate.
There has been speculation that Ambassador Boakai has picked Senator Koung as his running mate.
The Unity Party Secretary-General indicated that the Constitution of the Party grants the Standard Bearer of UP the exclusive powers to select his running-mate.
