LNBA Refutes Claim Of Involvement In Drafting FGM Bill

MONROVIA-It was reported that the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) had agreed to join the Government of Liberia to draft the Female’s Genital Mutilation Bill (FGM).

The Bar, through its President, termed this as false and misleading and should not in any way be respected.

Speaking at the opening of the Supreme Court’s March Term, 2023, Cllr. Sylvester Rennie mentioned that there was no resolution reached to draft the law.

At the same time, the Bar highlighted the need for security to be assigned to Judges during the dispensing of justice.

He mentioned that Judges are unable to recognize party’s litigants involved in cases brought before them for determination and as such, the need to have security assigned cannot be overemphasized.

The Bar’s President further called on the Legislative and Executive Branches of Government to provide the needed budgetary allocation to the Judiciary for the smooth running of courts across the country.
