LABOUR MINISTER REEMPHASIZES INDUSTRIAL SAFETY AT VARIOUS CONCESSION COMPANIES

MONROVIA–Liberia’s Labour Minister, Cllr. Charles H. Gibson has urged all concession companies doing business in Liberia to comply with the Ministry of Labour’s Regulations to avoid future embarrassments.

Addressing some Human Resource Managers and Heads of various Entities at the Ministry of Labour today in Monrovia, Minister Gibson said employment Entities in Liberia have reneged to comply with the industrial safety at workplaces, employment opportunities for Liberian citizens, alien registration to obtain work permit, quarterly statistical report, salary disparities between a Liberian employee and foreign workers doing the same job including many others thereby creating serious embarrassment for themselves.

According to Minister Gibson, the Ministry of Labour is charged with the responsibility to ensure Liberian workers in the workplace are given first preference over their foreign counterparts.

He said his office has been receiving reports from concession companies operating in Liberia that the theories of equal work and equal pay have become a serious issue for managers to address.

He at the same time called on those companies to comply with the Ministry of Labour and identify foreign workers in making sure that they are in line with the Labour law of Liberia.
