“NATIONAL FOOD FUND In SIGHT

…Senator Dillon Envisages

MONROVIA-Montserrado County Senator, Abraham Darius Dillon has revealed the drafting of a Bill described as the “National Food Fund” to be presented before the Senate in February as part of Policy solution strategies in handling the Country’s Food Insecurity.

Speaking on local radio in Grand Bassa County, MAGIC FM 99.3, the Montserrado County Lawmaker mentioned that as it is with the “National Road Fund” of which money is directed towards Roads maintenance in the Country, a similar pattern would be applied to the pending Bill.

In his detailed explanation on Saturday in conversation with Manager Christopher Yarwoe, he emphasized that a reasonable tax would be levied on each Bag of Rice imported to Liberia for the empowerment of the Farmers for improved Agriculture activities in the interest of Mass Food Production upon the passage of said Bill.

According to Montserrado 2020 re-elected Senator, his Colleagues Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, Jonathan L. Kaipay, and others are giving supportive arms to the compilation of the Bill that would ensure guaranteed relief to the State amidst the age-old need for Food Security.

Specifically, Dillon said about twenty (20) or twenty-five (25) percent would be enshrined in the Bill tax be levied on each bag of Rice; a fund when collected, the Lawmaker said would be placed in Extrol Account before expenditure.

This revelation comes amidst a record of the lawmakers succeeding along with his colleagues in ensuring an Opened Voting System at the Liberian Senate as well as cancelation of Executive Sessions during Confirmation hearings as well as setting all Lawmakers’ salaries at equilibrium [Level].

Additionally, Senator Dillon announced that the 2023 National Budget would only bear his Signature if such Legal Instrument is tailored in a Programmatic and Item-based context; a decision he said would aid in easy tracking and proper accountability.
