LEC To Extend To Cape Mount

-Advance Team Hits Robertsports

By Esau J. Farr

Amidst calls for the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) to expand its scope of distribution of power, it has now shown green-light of extending to Grand Cape Mount County.

The disclosure was made when a team of LEC technical staff launched an awareness campaign in Robertsports ahead of possible expansion of LEC power distribution in that Western Liberian County.

An ELBC correspondent in the county informed the national broadcaster that the awareness was meant to inform citizens of the county about the possible means of carrying electric power to their households and maintaining and protecting it as their property.

He quoted the team of LEC employees as cautioning the people of Cape Mount to take ownership of what is expected to light up their city and its environments saying, “light is security by itself.”

In response, local county officials and ordinary citizens of the western Liberian County welcomed the news and extended thanks and appreciation to authorities of the power house.

The local journalist in the area reported that the citizens greeted the news of a possible expansion of LEC Power grid to their county as a welcoming one.

They are quoted as saying, “It will be a good one for us because if we have LEC power, it will help us save cash compared to what we are now going through”.

“At least it will help our children to study under city power and it will also serve as security for our homes since some of us can’t afford to hire private security guards for personal protection,” one happy business woman is quoted as telling the LEC team.

The news is coming at the time when residents of Monrovia and its environs are demanding for their private homes connection by LEC with some resulting to protests after all diplomatic efforts failed.

It is not known how long it will take for LEC to electrify households and businesses in Grand Cape Mount County, but residents of the county can only hope and pray for the best since the core vision of the CDC led government is to lift Liberians from poverty to prosperity under its Pro-Poor Agenda.

Liberia remains amongst countries with high cost of power (Kw/hr) in Africa and other parts of the world despite the switching on of the renovated 88-tribune-hydro plank in White Plains in the sub-burg of Bensonville.
