LCP Conducts Women’s Forum

The Liberia Crusader for peace (LCP) and Golden Image Award National Secretariat have concluded a one-day Women capacity building workshop in the Country.

The forum which was sponsored by the Swedish Government, Women on the Move, and Princess Brittany Yates Foundation, was held recently at the Crusaders for Peace headquarters on the Capitol bypass in Monrovia.

Delivering her statement, Madam Isatu Noubibou, a member of the Golden Image Award National Secretariat said the women’s forum is part of key activities that precedes the main event of the award which is held every year.

According to her, the purpose of the forum is to bring together women from all walks of the Liberian society.

She added that the forum aims at discussing those societal issues that impede the progress of women in terms of decision making, understanding the fundamental rights as well as economic empowerment related matter.

However, she stated that during the course of the program, participants shared their ideas and experiences on those issues that matter to them as women as a means of ensuring sustained growth in their everyday activities.

Also making statement at the occasion, Deputy Gender Minister for Social Protection, Madam Alice Howard stated that it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Gender to promote the development, empowerment, and the protection of women, girls and children, as well as ensuring that Liberian women are empowered economically, socially and politically.

According to her, women have the vital role to play in the country’s development agenda.

Minister Howard further stated that National Action plan was developed in recognition of the special needs of women and girls especially during crises to promote their involvement in security conflict prevention and peace building.

Deputy Minister Howard reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment in working with all women grouping in the country.
