The Secretary General of the Liberia Labor Congress, Mr. David D. Sackoh for the purpose of strengthening cordial relationship between his organization and the Liberia Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, January 09, 2019 paid a courtesy call on the President of Chamber, Mr. J. Wendell Addy at his Capitol Hill office in Monrovia.

Few years ago, 2007 to be exact, the Liberia Chamber of Commerce (LCC) and the Liberia Labor Congress (LLC) signed anMOU with the sole objective of consolidating relationship amongst the workforce and employers with the expressed purpose to promote social dialogue and harmonious industrial relationship to improve productivity through social dialogue.

The failure to implement the MOU between the two organizations has reportedly contributed to the increased labor unrest in the country, and the need to look back for the implementation of the provision provided for by the MOU is eminence, this accordingly gave rise to the courtesy call on the President of the LCC by the Secretary General of the Liberia Labor Congress (LLC).

Speaking to reporter, the Chief Scribe expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce headed by Mr. Addy, and further reechoed the objective of the MOU signed and to also actualize the already cordial relationship between the LLC and the LCC.

Mr. Sackoh made reference to several unregulated labor unrests at various concession sites around the country which he said is troubling including the Sime Darby Plantation in Western Liberia, the MMG Gold in Central Liberia, the Firestone Plantation Company in Margibi County, the Arcelor Mittal in Nimba and the Bea Mountain also in western Liberia.

Mr. Sackoh also said the MOU signed between the LCC and LLC which is aimed at aborting these unwholesome practices at various concessions are still ongoing, stressing, “These situations are indeed troubling, and therefore, something must be done to abort such situation,” the LLC Chief Scribe told reporter.

For his part, the President of the LCC, Mr. J. Wendell Addy welcomed Mr. Sackor at his office and noted that his visit will further consolidate the objective of the MOU signed between the LLC and his organization (LCC), and said their joint efforts will promote the stability and cordial relationship in the country’s labor sector strengthening bond between employers and workers.

He said performance productivity and labor discipline of the country’s workforce will always remain the hallmark of his organization. Mr. Addy further stated that Liberia can only be competitive, noting that the focus must be to provide decent jobs, stimulate local production and improve Liberia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The LCC head further expressed thanks and appreciation to the Liberia Labor Congress Secretary General for reawakening the cordial relationship between his organization and the LCC.

In a related development, the two organizations (Liberia Chamber of Commerce and the Liberia Labor Congress) will be calling for a meeting of the National Tripartite Council being the highest decision making body in labor/employers related matters.
