Koung Cleared by NEC

MONROVIA–The National Elections Commission, (NEC), has certificated Jeremiah Koung as Senator- Elect of Nimba County in the just ended December 8, 2020 Special Senatorial Elections.

Senator Jeremiah Koung was officially certificated on April 13, 2021 following the mandate of the Honorable Supreme Court, the highest court in Liberia ordering  the election house to take full jurisdiction over the matter.

Senator Koung is a member of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction, MDR. NEC Acting Chairperson, Cllr. P. Teplah Reeves presented the Election Certificate to Senator Jeremiah Kpan Koung of MRD on behalf of the Commission.

 Cllr. P. Teplah Reeves said, while they celebrate the end of a process and the determination made by the Liberian people as to who represent them in the Liberian Senate is upheld, the Commission assures all Liberians of its constitutional mandate and commitment to conduct free, fair, credible and transparent elections throughout the Country.

The NEC Acting Chairperson noted that election is everybody’s business therefore, it is binding on all Liberians to ensure a peaceful election at all times.

Cllr. Reeves NEC wants all Liberians to commit themselves to the rule of law as the surest way to sustaining our peace and democracy in Liberia.

Responding, Senator Jeremiah Koung commended the NEC for conducting the  December 8, 2020 Special Senatorial Elections extremely well, despite the limited resources.  He said the election was conducted successfully.

He called for electoral law reforms at the same time, calling for unity amongst all citizens of Nimba county
