The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, Francis S. Korkpor was on Thursday September 10, 2020, kicked out of his normal parking spot by aggrieved workers of Judiciary Branch of Government over 11 months’ salary arrears .

Chief Justice Korkpor was prohibited from parking his vehicles in front of the Monrovia City Court by the aggrieved judiciary workers under the banner “Bring Back Our Liberian Dollars Salaries” due to his alleged refusal to intervene or address the employees’ plight.

The deliberate action to have prevented the Chief Justice conveyed from being parked was allegedly another means to draws his (Korkpor) attention to what they described as “the Justices reluctance to look into the alleged withholding of their eleven months component of their Liberian dollars salaries.”

The September 10, 2020 protest is the third in a series peace assembly staged by employees of that branch of government over salary cut and the alleged failure on the part of national government to make up with its obligations to the staff.

Before the arrival of the Chief Justice convoy, over hundred aggrieved workers had grouped themselves to a place reserved for the Priest of the High Court by authorities of the Judiciary to stage their “Bring Back Our Liberian Dollars Component protest.

The Supreme Court Chief Marshall, Brigadier Amos Dixson, Monrovia City Court Judge Jomah Jallah and Head of the Security at the Temple of Justice try to intervene to have the protesters relocate themselves, so as to enable the Chief Justice to park vehicles, but the intervention was resisted by protesters.

Being inconvenienced by the aggrieved workers, the High Priest was further advised to relocate his vehicles to the basement of the Temple of Justice, a place meant for contractors and other local staffer’s to park their vehicles.

Accordingly, after the Chief Justice had relocated his vehicles, the Spokesperson of the aggrieved workers, Leroy Archie Ponpon told Judicial Reporters that “this is the beginning of worst action that will be taking by the staff in the coming days.

Chairman Ponpon statement was greeted with slogans by the aggrieved workers saying “Touch one Touch all, we are not going to get tired until we can get our justice benefits.”

They vowed to disrupt the opening of the October A.D. 2020, Term of Court of the Supreme Court at which time President George Weah and other Senior public officials to include the Speaker and President Pro-Tempore of the Senate will be in attendance.

Justice Korkpor has instructed the aggrieved workers to set up a three members committee to work along with the Personnel Division of the Judiciary to investigate the salaries, which mandate yet to expire, where the aggrieved workers stage the protest.
