Joe Boakai Breaks Silence On June 7

Former Liberian Vice President, Joseph Boakai has broken silence on the much publicized Save The State peaceful assembly in Liberia.

Amb. Boakai said he wants organizers of the June 7, 2019 to  ensure that the assembly should be without violent.

Speaking to reporters in Monrovia on Monday, June 3, 2019, the former Liberian Vice President said he wants those who will be involved in the peaceful assembly to be civilized in their actions to prove to the rest of the world that Liberians are matured, civilized people and able to maintain their democracy and above all, peaceful people.

His call comes in amidst the refusal of organizers of the protest to reconsider their decision to settle for dialogue over protest.

There have been series of calls for dialogue as a means of making the government to deliver the needed basic social services as well as addressing the damping economy situation of the country.

In a related development, one of the main organizers or campaigners of the proposed June 7 Protest has listed immediate demands of the Council of Patriots (COPs) ahead of the Friday protest.

According to Henry P. Costa, some of the immediate demands of COPs on June 7, 2019 will be the dismissal of Finance and Development Planning Minister, Samuel Tweah and current Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) Governor, Nathaniel R. Patray, III. He has also disclosed the unconditional declaration of the assets of President George M. Weah and all public officials as provided for under the laws of Liberia as part of the demands that he said must be immediately addressed.

Mr. Costa made the disclosure to reporters on Monday, June 3, 2019, shortly after a meeting at the Civil Law Court of Liberia.

Mr. Costa and others had gone to the court on invitation after the court received a writ of mandamus from a group of Liberians under the banner “Citizens United to Sustain Peace and Democracy” including lawyers to stop planners and protesters on June 7, 2019.

In response to the concern of the Citizens United to Sustain Peace and Democracy filed with the Civil Law Court to Cllr. Demister Brown informed them that the right to peaceful assembly is guarantee for under the Constitution of Liberia and therefore, there was nothing wrong with the planed protest to be stopped through and by such writ.
