IAA Welcomes Senate’s PAC Recommendations

The Internal Audit Agency says it welcomes the investigative report of the Senate’s Committee on Public Accounts and Audit into multiple claims made against it by Mr. Robert Neal who ‘disengaged’ himself from all activities of the entity since September 2019.

The report recommends an audit of the IAA which is in consonance with our initial pronouncement in February of this year that we were concluding resource mobilization with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning for the conduct of an independent audit of our books, to include our payroll for the period under retrospect.

Today, we want to reaffirm our commitment to the exercise of having our books opened to an independent public account scrutiny in order to strengthen our resolve as an integrity institution, to continue to help improve the overall internal control environment as well as the operational performances of various entities of the Government of Liberia.

However, of equal importance is the fact that the Senate’s PAC also established through its investigation that our accuser, Mr. Robert Neal, a sitting official of the government of Liberia, is on political asylum in the United States of America with Passport #: L196575, asylum registration is: 216357659, and the case #: MRV20185800101. Towards that end, the Committee has recommended that the office of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Liberia be informed about the matter, and appropriate action be taken.

It is crucially important to intimate that while our accuser could not substantiate any of his many claims of payroll paddling, conflict of interest, violation of public procurement procedures, among others, the IAA still remains committed to working along with the Liberian Senate and all other authorities concerned in ensuring that recommendations from the report are achieved for the greater good of upholding transparency, accountability and integrity in public governance.

We want to reassure our development partners and the people of Liberia of our determination to executing our mandate of providing assurances that the financial and operational activities of government are in compliance with applicable laws, policies, standards and procedures, and that absolutely no amount of unprovoked propaganda will have us distracted.
