HVL Introduces Re-Usable Sanitary Pads In Schools

The Chief Executive Officer of a local NGO known as Her Voices Liberia hvl has introduced the use of Re-usable Sanitary Pads for young girls in the country.

According to Atty. Margaret Nigba, menstrual pads have been constantly unstable in time past on the basis of material, shape, purchase and handling of it has not been fully undertaken by most women and girls in some parts of Liberia.

This was introduced at event marking the observance of world menstrual day held at the Boatswain Jr. High School auditorium on the Bushrod Island on Monday May 28, 2018.

“Our interaction with girls and women in rural parts of Liberia has proven that there is a need for awareness and training to get them to understand the importance of the use of menstrual pad” among other things she added.

Atty. Nigba explained that due to lack of understanding, the inaccessibility of funds and lacks of training on menstrual hygiene, HVL thinks there is a need to work with women and girls in these rural areas to reduced infections and the spread of STDs through training in the use of re-usable sanitary pads.

She however extended thanks to the UNFPA, the Swedish Embassy, and the Boatswain School administration for affording her the opportunity to observe the day and called on humanitarian organizations to help with the initiative for girls who cannot afford the use of disposable pad.

Atty. Nigba further warned girls to remain clean during and after their menstrual period why in school and avoid sameness if they experience it for the first time in life.

Her Voices Liberia CEO gives several health tips to students that will guide them in the process to remain healthy and said the use of the re-usable pad will also reduce their cost if they cannot afford for the real pad.

Meanwhile, several students who attended the program said they are appreciative and said it is a welcoming initiative as some of them cannot afford to buy sanitary pad.
