DG Coleman was invited since Tuesday May 8, 2018 to appear before the full plenary of the House of Representatives along with the management of Sime Darby Plantation Liberia (SDPL) to receive the mandate of the House following its investigations into the alleged violation of the concession agreement and subsequent recommendations.
As per the rules of the House of Representatives, jean trousers and other funny attires are not allowed in the chambers (the sacred) of the House of Representatives on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the constitutional working days of that august body.
But on Thursday May 10, 2018, DG Coleman appeared in an average long-sleeve shirt with a fashionable blue-long-jean trouser and sat in the third row right at the back of the officials from Sime Darby in the chambers (the sacred) of the House of Representatives.
Prior to his arrival, the lawmakers had waited for him for nearly fifteen minutes to appear. This, the lawmakers said it is an obstruction of their legislative functions, which is ‘contemptuous’
After announcing his arrival in chambers, the Speaker of the House, Bhofal Chambers was just about to order him to take the witness stand when the General of the House of Representatives (Martin Johnson) noticed his attire and asked him out of the chambers.
His actions, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Bhofal Chambers said he as veteran official of government should be on top of the rules governing that august body.
“With his experience in government, there is still need for explanation as to why that is the case,” Speaker Chambers.
However, while in the lobby close to the chambers of the House of Representatives, Director General Coleman in an off record chat with journalists said he was written to appear at 10am on Thursday May 10, 2018 and he came properly attired.
Chatting further, Coleman said after waiting for nearly an hour, he decided to go to the hospital for checkup, saying he changed his attire afterward, but was called that he must appear before the full plenary along with the management of Sime Darby.
