Health Minister Extols For Progress In Health Sector

A national youth group under the banner “National Concern Youths for Better Liberia” has lauded Health Minister, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah for her numerous achievements since her ascendancy at the helm of Liberia’s health sector.

The group in a statement over the weekend, commended Dr. Jallah for her successes so far at the Ministry and urged her to continue her positive works, geared towards resuscitating the country’s challenged health sector.

It can be recalled that few individuals and institutions, called on the Liberian Senate not to confirm Dr. Jallah as Health Minister, on grounds that she did not have the pedigree to lead the health sector of the Country. But, speaking through a Spokesperson Jeremiah Paye, the group said that Dr. Jallah has proven her doubters wrong; evidenced by the many successes she has scored in a short period of time.

The group of young Liberians named, the provision of foreign training for 27 medical practitioners now assigned at various referral hospitals in the country, placement of 2,000 doctors and nurses on government’s payroll, the relocation of the National Drug Service Office, now spacious for the storage of essential drugs provided by Global Fund, World Health Organization (WHO) and other health partners; the use of lobbying power to secure funding for the construction of a new hospital facility in Grand Bassa County,  and ensuring that ambulance services are available in every county in Liberia as major among Dr. Jallah’s achievements at the Ministry.

The Concern National Youth for Better Liberia also outlined efforts by Dr. Jallah to provide solar panel at every government hospital in the country, as a means of remedy to cases of fuel shortage, her support to President Weah in securing funds from donors for the construction of the 14th Military Hospital, now at 80% completion rate and the New Redemption Hospital undergoing construction in Caldwell, provision of foreign training for four (4) staff of the Ministry of Health in managing Human resources in the health sector and refurbishment of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital as laudable accomplishments.

The group of young people then opined that President George Weah’s appointment of Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah as Health Minister is of no mistake, as she is justifying the confidence he reposed in her. They expressed optimism that the unprecedented success of Dr. Jallah in one year is an assurance that in the next five years, she will lead Liberia’s health sectors to a much more improved and resilient status.
