Gov’t School Abandon In Cape Mount

A well-built government high school in Zodua Town, Grand Cape Mount County has been abandoned by students and citizens of the town due to the lack of teachers in the area.

The over ten class rooms’ high school painted green and white runs from kindergarten to twelfth grade (12^th), according to citizens of the town was constructed by the government for the community.

But according to our reporter who visited the town over the weekend, community dwellers are frustrated over the fact that no teachers to run the school, thus, the school is of no use to the town.

The chairlady of the women in the town, Jenneh Moore told our reporter that their children walk long distances in order to attend other schools, something she said is not going well with the town.

“Our children walk long distances as far as Sinje to attend other schools. Since this school was built in this community there has been no teachers to teach our children and many of us are only living on subsistence farming, where are we going to get money from to pay teachers to come and teach our children, therefore we are appealing to you people to please help us in this direction,” chairlady Moore appealed to partners.

Also, some students in the area told this paper that they are very discouraged over the situation in their area and want central government as well as some well-meaning citizens to come to their aid.

For her part, Conversation International Country Director, Jessica said they are looking forward to see how they all can help in supporting some livelihood development within the area.

“All of my colleagues have heard all you people have said. So, with the support of Global Environmental Facility, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Conversation International (CI) we are hoping to see how we can all work together to support some livelihood development and monitoring the forest area as well,” Jessica said.
