Monrovia-December 5, 2025: The Government of Liberia says it is organizing a special media tour to provide firsthand coverage of ongoing electrification projects along the Robertsfield Highway corridor. The announcement was made by Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah during MICAT’s weekly press briefing held on Thursday in Monrovia.
Minister Piah explained that the initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), aims to give journalists a clearer understanding of the progress being made in expanding electricity access and improving power reliability along key routes. He said the tour will also highlight the installation of new streetlights and other distribution enhancements currently underway.
According to the Minister, the government believes journalists should see the developments themselves rather than rely solely on verbal briefings. He emphasized that visual evidence will help the public appreciate the scale of the work and the challenges associated with maintaining a stable national grid.
Piah acknowledged that despite the ongoing upgrades, the energy sector continues to experience serious constraints. Among these challenges, he cited incidents of burnt wiring in homes when electricity is restored, a problem linked to outdated or faulty household electrical systems. He stressed, however, that the government and LEC are actively working to minimize these risks and improve the consistency of power delivery.
The Minister assured the public that the upcoming tour will enhance transparency and deepen media engagement as the government accelerates electrification efforts across the country. He said sustained collaboration with journalists will ensure Liberians receive accurate updates on the progress being made in the energy sector.
