Gov. wants print new Bank notes

MONROVIA,  Nov 15-The Deputy minister of information, Eugen Fahngon told journalists Thursday the president George Weah wants to get approval  from the legislature for the printing of new banknotes.

This followed question  about news of printing of new bank notes. He said  the printing of the  bank notes would enable the country remove  current bank notes printed by former president of Liberia, Charles Taylor and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf..

“It is false that the money has already been printed, but there is a proposal to get it printed,” he said. He added that the is necessary  because the Central Bank of Liberia  does not know the total amount in circulation.

According to the law of Liberia on currency and banking, only the legislature with recommendations from the Central Bank  can approve the printing of bank notes. TNR
