‘G/Bassa County In Health Crisis’

-Superintendent Barkpeh Asserts

The issue of healthcare delivery in Liberia remains a major challenge to the government and people of Liberia and serious attention needs to be given to the sector.

Speaking to reporter on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Grand Bassa County Superintendent, Janjay Barpkeh said there are numerous challenges facing the country and Bassa is no exception.
According to Superintendent Barpkeh, the county is under a serious health crisis as the only government hospital in the county is not functional at the moment, a situation he said needs to be look at with urgency so as to save lives in the county.
Barpkeh explained that this is as the result of the burning of the only generator which is being used to supply the government own hospital with electricity in the county.
He further narrated that the situation has caused hospital authority to transfer patients to other local clinics in the county, something he said is not a good thing for the county.
The Grand Bassa County Superintendent bewailed “We have been under health crisis in Bassa. The hospital only generator gutted fire because of that, the hospital facility has been and is still down.”
He emphasized the need for central government to look in that direction, noting that people of Bassa deserved better.
The Bassa Superintendent however, stated that they as county leaders have met with the concession companies in the area, who according to him made available 80KVA generator for the hospital to resume operations.
Consequently, Barkpeh threatens to go after concession companies who failed to execute their cooperate social responsibilities in the county.
“Bassa people deserve better let them have what belongs to them. They are paying taxes the same way others are paying taxes. We are not going to wait for budget to pass,” he maintained.
