From Israel With…

It is no doubt that the Liberian Leader, Dr. George M. Weah and entourage visited the Holy land of Israel when that country’ diplomatic plate is still craving for some cardinal connection of support from several, if not as many countries as possible to politically deep root the establishment of its (Israel’s) Embassy from Tel Aviv to the controversial and heavily contested Jerusalem; wherein the Palestinians are vehemently opposed to.

Such official visit tactically, but strategically loaded with quiet negations must also attract Weah’s political endorsement of support and recognition of Israeli Embassy being housed in heavily contested Jerusalem especially when from the initial state, his predecessor voted against an American-driven pro-Israel-Jerusalem-based Embassy Resolution that suffered some diplomatic lacerations when introduced at the United Nations; an action that  partly cracked Liberia’s view-mirror reflecting Trump’s policy against countries that voted against with a side attraction of Israel’s second thought.

Indeed, on such a trip, where Weah’s Liberia is struggling and desperately craving for massive external assistance-aid, grants, loans and other bilateral cooperation most often tied to conditionality, could not easily be robustly scrutinized in the wake of investors’ fatigue rather caved in rapidly to return home with something tangible and fruitful to show.

This is a vivid signal of a bird in the hand is better than nothing at all; and equally so, considering the toughness of earning and sustaining a livelihood in Liberia characterized by an ailing and poorly managed economy that is in complete bad shape; any offer that will establish a sigh of relief will be quickly and with open-arm be embraced like the case of a drowning man opting to hang onto anything thrown in his way to keep him afloat; even if that is a razor blade that could bleed him later or in the process; he will grab it just to survive.

While there, he, Liberian leader met two faces of requests from the Trump’s crusade to remove the current leadership in Venezuela in favor of a puppet of which he (Trump) is soliciting support from countries and others whose arms, without hesitation he is willing to twist to fall in line; and that from Israel’s required need for recognition  of the establishment of its embassy in fiercely contested Jerusalem; thereby over-turning what his predecessor had sanctioned along with other countries that voted against the Trump/USA Resolution.

Politically, and in the diplomatically slippery corridors, nothing goes for nothing mainly where Israel and Trump are, and what they are being confronted with; basically with regime change on one hand and recognition of Jerusalem-based embassy fray on the other hand; every offer and practical expression of goodwill to buttressing Weah-run Liberia’s economy is welcoming, but let us not open the door of accommodation so wide just for one segment that others may not know their way in or around; when the political ‘saints’ start to throng that route.

And so from Israel with….as we look, wait to see.
