As part of buttessing national government effort in ensuring people living with disabilities get easy access to food, shelter and clothing especially during the rainy season, the National Commission on Disabilities has begun distribution of food and non-food items to people living with disabilities across Montserrado County.
The donation according to the Executive Director of National Commission on Disabilities Samuel Dean, Sr. said it is the priority of the commission to ensure that the one million person with disabilities are being carter to through advocacy and provide social, economic and political rights of people of such category.
By doing so, the ED of NCD stressed that they as head of the commission lobby to national government to help disabled people and organisations through subsidies.
Mr. Dean noted that the gesture of food and non-food items was made possible through President Joseph Nyuma Boakai that give grant to the commission for further onwards distribution to people living with disabilities.
“We lobby to government for grant and they give us US $15,000. We want for the world to know that the grant given is not taken for granted, is not use for self gain but rather go into ever corner to fish out our disabled and ensure their lives are impacted”, Samuel Dean added.
The Executive Director of National Commission on Disabilities noted that in order to break the negative stereotype of the social sanction stigma people with disabilities are subjected to, it is prudent to give them opportunity and flag out necessity that will impact their lives.
Receiving the items, Sarah Wallace lauded the National Commission on Disabilities and the Executive Director for such a huge donation.
Miss Wallace termed the items as a favorable gesture and promised to use for its intended purposes and urged the entity not to compromise the integrity of the institution but to continously forged the impactful and unwavering commitment and support towards people living with disabilities.
Meanwhile, Madam Sarah Wallace wants national government prompt into helping the disabled community financially to enable them be independent and empower their vocational training.
At the same time, the Executive Director of National Commission on Disabilities is seeking for more budgetary support to enable the institution provide programs, empowerment, and meet up with the needs of its members.
Samuel Dean Sr. stressed it will make people living with disabilities and the disabled community feel the impact of national government and be willing to contribute to the growth and developmental initiatives of the country as well as the well-being of their families.
He spoke recently during the donation of the over US $200,000 given by national government to help people living with disabilities and the disabled community at large.
