Exhibition Of VR Gets Under Way

The National Elections Commission has disclosed that the exhibition of the final voter roll is expected to be published at different centers across the country for consideration by the general public.

Despite the writ of mandamus levied against it, the NEC announced the exhibition of data collected during the just ended voter roll update, so that people or voters will have access and be able to raise issues where necessary.

Remarking at the start of a two day media training under the inscription “2020 Elections coverage: understanding campaign procedures, offenses and expenses,” Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah mentioned that the NEC is in the process of displaying the final voter roll for exhibition in a soonest possible time as it is important to the process.

Thought she did not state a precise date that the NEC will begin the exhibition exercise, madam Browne Lansanah believes the exhibition is very significance in the conduct of the December 8, 2020 elections and all other elections aim at ensuring credibility and transparency. 

Accordingly; madam Lansanah cautions media practitioners to desist from publishing unbalanced stories and report in a fair way that will save the state.

She said the maintenance of peace and increase citizens’ appetite in the process and the media as a whole is determined by the content or what they report.

The Training is part of warm-up exercises for the holding of elections, referendum, and the by-elections in Sinoe and Montserrado counties as inscribed under chapter VII, Article 77 to 86 of the 1986 Constitution of the Republic.

The event funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), brought together sixty journalists from across the fifteen political subdivisions to be drilled in the area of: legal basis of the pending elections, role of the media, political parties and candidates resolution, display and education about referendum symbols, campaign expenses and adjudication of complaints.

Similarly; UNDP Program Officer for Elections Roosevelt Zayzay commended the National Elections Commission for the conduct of trainings across the country for media practitioners and reaffirmed the continuous support of UNDP.

Zayzay further stated that UNDP partnership with NEC is dated as far back as 2010 with goal to build it [NEC] capacity to take control and ownership of the national elections.

He maintained that significant progress has been made in the conduct of elections in the country since its ties with NEC in 2010.

Zayzay said “As we go to election, the need to be informed cannot be over stated and that is why we have joined the National Elections Commission in this regards of training media practitioners.”
