MONROVIA- Oct. 6-Former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has frowned on President George Weah over the lack of women candidates on the ticket of the ruling establishment for the pending December 8, 2020 elections.
In a Twit on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, Former President Sirleaf termed as disappointing the lack of single woman candidate in the Coalition of Democratic Change (CDC) roster for the upcoming by-election in December.
Though she applauded President Weah’s recent appointment of women in executive positions, she said more is expected of the chief feminist when it comes to ensuring gender equality.
“I’m encouraged to see world leaders reaffirming their commitment to gender equality, 25 years after Beijing (UNGA generation Equality)”, the Former Head of State added.
Madam Sirleaf mentioned building equal and inclusive societies is more urgent than ever before, in working to recover and rebuild amid Covid-19.
She said “Thank you @GeorgeWeahOff for your efforts to advance the Representative of women in public leadership in Liberia. You set an example for male leaders to partner with women in the quest for gender equality.”
Sirleaf continued; “Fantastic to see that over half of President @GeorgeWeahOff’s latest appointees are women, who will be holding positions across various ministries as well as in the juvenile.”
