-Hoists Member States Flags

By Esau J. Farr

The opening of the Regional ECOWAS Office in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County has been completed and finalized with the hoisting of its member states flags.

ECOWAS is the Economic Community of West African States a regional body under the African Union. The regional body is comprised of sixteen West African countries sub-divided into Francophone and Anglophone countries.

The office was recently opened without the official hoisting of the flags representing each member state nation thus making it incomplete.

But on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, the flags representing all member nations of the West African sub-region were all jointly hoisted in the presence of individuals representing their respective countries.

The ceremony was held in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.

According to ELBC’s Correspondent in the county, the ceremony started with a street parade through the principle streets of Zwedru.

More than one thousand (1000) participants from the sub-region are reported to have been in attendance to grace the occasion.

Now that the office is fully opened and dedicated, it is expected to host staff that will focus on issues affecting citizens of ECOWAS member states with a goal to sustain peace, good governance, cross border trade and security for all.

Meanwhile, the head of the regional office, Amadu Toure, has lauded the body for the opening of the regional office describing it as a relief for all member states.

Mr. Toure added that it is a window of job opportunities for Liberians, especially those residing in that part of the country. TNR
