Liberia-Through the Minister of Public Works, Roland Layfette Giddings, the Liberian Government has disclosed that the Chinese Government has committed to erecting interchanges over path bridges in Congo Town at the Ministerial Complex and the 72nd Boulevard in Paynesville.

An interchange is defined as a system of interconnecting roadways in conjunction with one or more grade separations that allow traffic movement between two or more roadways or highways on different levels.

Speaking on state radio Monday, Minister Giddings said the Government of former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf started the negotiation with the Government of China for the interchanges of the over-path bridges that former President George Weah was unable to ensure for the Chinese to undertake.

He said the recent visit of President Joseph Boakai to China and his counterpart Xi Jinping committed to ensuring that those projects that were pending will be undertaken, especially the interchanges of the over-path bridges.

According to him, the project will commence in February of 2025 with all modalities being worked out.

He said the interchanges of the over-path bridges will reduce the traffic congestion commuters usually faced in those areas including the Ministerial Complex and Boulevard.

Minister Giddings said the interchanges of the over-path bridges will start from Congo Town back-road to the Ministerial Complex and from the Ministerial Complex to 72nd Boulevard to reduce the traffic.

He further disclosed that the Chinese Government will intervene in other road networks in Bomi and Grand Cape Mount counties as part of President Xi Jinping’s commitment to the government and the people of Liberia.
