-ANC Lashes At Senators Over Ja’neh’s Impeachment

By Esau J. Farr

The political leader of the opposition, Alternative National Congress, ANC, has expressed disagreement with members of the Liberian Senate over the manner and procedures leading to the impeachment of the former Associate Justice of Liberia, Kabineh Ja’neh.

Mr. Alexander B. Cummings said despite ‘constitutional errors, missteps and the political undertone factors that characterized the impeachment of the former Associate Justice, more than two-third (2/3) majority members of the Senate as called for by the 1986 Constitution of Liberia went ahead and impeached Cllr. Ja’neh.

“Shame on them and I say shame on them. Let’s say it together; shame on them for impeaching Cllr. Ja’neh,” he told partisans of the ANC at their Sinkor-Airfield Shortcut office when two members of the House of Representatives officially announced their respective membership with the party (ANC).

The businessman turned politician promised to feed and support candidates against senators who voted to impeach the former Associate Justice in the 2020 mid-term Senatorial Election across the country.

Liberians are expected to go to the polls in October next year to replace or maintain fifteen senators (one already deceased) whose nine years term will be expiring next year as per the 1986 Constitution of Liberia.

“For impeaching Justice Ja’neh, we will put candidates against those senators who were involved in the illegal and unconstitutional impeachment of Justice Ja’neh in 2020,” Cummings stated.

Denouncing their membership with their former political parties and pledging their loyalty to the ANC, Lofa County Electoral District number (#5) five Representative, Beyan Howard and Nimba County Electoral District number (#8) eight Representative, Larry Younquoi in separate remarks said they were joining the ANC because they believe and have trust in the ability and ideology of Cummings to transform the lives of Liberians after the 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections.

Cummings is seen as the newest ‘kid on the block’ and face of opposition politicians in the political theater of Liberia with many giving him attention since his attempt to be President of Liberia in 2017 despite ending in 5th on the overall results of the Presidential Election.
