MONROVIA-One of the country’s leading higher institutions of learning, the Cuttington University (CU), located in Bong County is expected to shortly launch its doctoral degrees programs in Theology and Ministries. The launch is expected to take place on May 24, 2023, in Liberia.
Making the disclosure, the President of CU, Dr. Romelle A. Horton noted that the institution has identified the urgent need to offer such programs.
Cuttington University is a private university in Suacoco, Bong County. Founded in 1889 by the Episcopal Church of the United States (ECUSA), it is the oldest private, coeducational, four-year degree-granting institution in sub-Saharan Africa.
The college was named after Robert Fulton Cuttington who in 1885, donated $ US 5,000 to purchase a piece of land for the construction of the institution.
The College awarded its first two certificates in 1909 and was incorporated to give diplomas and grant degrees in 1922.
In 1929, the College was forced to close due to lack of financing. Since its reawakening, it has played a pivotal role in providing quality education in the areas of agriculture, business, and liberal arts.
According to Cuttington University’s President, the University has immensely contributed to the human capital development of Liberia and has produced notable individuals who have served and continue to serve the country and humanity with diligence, commitment, and devotion.
The CU’s President made these remarks in an interview with journalists on May 16, 2023, ahead of the pending doctoral degree program launch in the County.
Dr. Horton further noted that as part of Cuttington University’s mission to produce more qualified and knowledgeable Liberian professionals in different specialized studies, the institution remains committed to providing quality educational services and fostering a 21st Global Century of education in the Country.
She described the new plan of the University to offer doctoral degrees as a big boost for the educational system of Liberia.
The Cuttington University is first female President said the doctoral degree will be offered in Theology and Ministries in Liberia.
Meanwhile, the Liberian Leader, President George M. Weah President is expected to serve as a chief launcher during the ceremony of the first doctoral degree program in Liberia.
This remarkable occasion is expected to be honored by the Chairman and Members of the Board of Trustees of Cuttington University, Faculty and Staff of the University, high-profiled Government Officials of Liberia, Officials and Members of the Bong County Legislative Caucus, Parents, the Alumni Association of the University among others.
