Community Partnership Ends Caldwell Residents Water Trouble

Before now, most residents of Sand Beach community in the Township of Caldwell would trek for about an hour to fetch safe drinking water. But a cordial community relationship with Huali International, a Sand Mining company operating in the area is fast changing the tale.

The community through funding from the company has constructed and commissioned 3 hand pumps valued at US$3600. In his remarks at the dedication ceremony over the weekend the chairman of the community Matthias D. Cooper described the hand pumps as a very big boost for all inhabitants of the area.

He sounded “water is life and we have suffered a lot in this community due to lack of safe drinking water. The hand pumps are 3 and the combine value is US$3600 dollars. We have also embarked on the creation of alleys within our community. These projects are very helpful to our community residents”.

For his part, Huali International Sand Mining Company General Manager Prince N. Johnson said his company remains committed to the needs of the people. “This is one way we contribute to the development of the community we operate. We are living up to our mandate to the people. We have been working with the community leadership and we are committed to doing more for the growth and development of this community. This community leadership has been very responsible and all we will do is to live up to our part of the bargain”, he said.

Also speaking, E. Francis Woods Commissioner of the Township of Caldwell thanked both the community and company for the partnership. “I am so happy today that my people now have safe drinking water. These are things we have been craving for as leaders of this township. This community is an affected community because this is where the sand mining company is operating”, he said.

He indicated “we have engaged the companies operating within these communities to deliver on their Cooperate Social Responsibilities (CSR) and today Huali Sand Mining Company is now playing their part. These hand pumps will bring life to the more than 4 thousand inhabitants in this community most of who walk miles to get safe drinking water”.
