Caught In ‘Crossfire’

-As CDC’s Chairman Morlu Scolds LNP Director As Liar; Who’s Victim Of Compromise Posture? Who Places Justice In A Choke Hole?

There is a maxim that after the honeymoon, comes the hangover. But interestingly, in the wake of some ongoing by-elections beginning with the May 20, 2018 District #13 up to the July 29, 2019 District #15 representatives and the Montserrado County’s senatorial by-elections respectively; the aftermath has been loaded with hue and cry from the opposition camp openly alleging that the Liberia National Police (LNP) is in bed with the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

Persistent with their claim, they further advanced their allegation to another level by branding the LNP of being Congress for Democratic Change’s (CDC) police and therefore inept to deal with the latter(CDC) when reportedly involved in elections’ violence.

While the Districts numbers 13 and 15 by-elections have been marred with serious violence with the LNP taken the burnt for allegedly being partial in favor of what the opposition bloc considered the ruling establishment; pundits measuring the simmering row between the CDC Chairman Mulbah Morlu and the top brass of LNP with the Chairman noting that Police Director Patrick Sudue lies on him, has taken an unfriendly trend leaving the LNP, amidst allegation of being bedfellow of CDC to be ‘caught in a crossfire’ of truth and deceitfulness.

As the past propels unsettled business thereby hunting the presence with the latest unfolding development between LNP and CDC’s heavyweights, pundits believe that for justice to maintain its unhindered value; it must be made crystal clear that truth crushed to the ground shall surely rise again as now being played by the two organizations regarding the alleged flogging of a top brass of the LNP by some Cdcians recently.

Meanwhile, Chairman Morlu in his facebook post claimed that IG Sudue did not issue him any communication as stated before members of the Senate in the on-going investigation into the alleged assault of LNP’s Deputy Inspector General for Operations (DIGPO) Marvin Sackor at the headquarters of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

“We would like to use this medium to inform Chairman Morlu that the LNP stands by every statement it made Friday, August 23, 2019 before members of the Senate especially concerning the invitation of Chairman Morlu and Representative Acarous Gray to assist with this investigation”, the Police spokesman Moses Carter maintained.

Additionally, “We also would like to clarify that at no point in time did Hon. Sudue indicate that Chairman Morlu and Hon. Gray are suspects while he spoke to members of the Senate as insinuated in Chairman Morlu’s facebook response. Hon. Sudue informed members of the Senate that investigation into alleged assault of DIGPO Sackor is on-going and that the LNP had made contacts with Chairman Morlu and Hon. Gray to assist the investigation” LNP pointed out.

At the same time, LNP observes that “it is only obvious for us to invite Chairman Morlu and Rep. Gray to hear from them on what transpired at the CDC’s headquarters as it relates to the alleged assault on DIGPO Sackor since in fact they, as leaders of the CDC were on the scene of the incident which is aimed at ensuring that the perpetrators are made to face the full weight of the law.

“Hence, the LNP is using this medium to request the appearance of Chairman Morlu and Hon. Acarous Gray at the headquarters of the Liberia National Police not later than 12:00 Noon on Monday, August 26, 2019”, statement added.

Moreover, from all indications, Police Inspector General (IG) Patrick Sudue and Mulbah Morlu, Chairman of the ruling party seem to be in a serious battle after alleged plan to compromise the flogging of a high ranking officer of the LNP U-102, Marvin Sackor failed (Backfires).

Sources alleged that Chairman Morlu and Representative Aracous Gray a steward of the CDC have been pleading with the LNP through its IG Sudue to forget about the matter (investigation of the flogging of U-102) for undisclosed reasons.

Sources also alleged that while in the process, there became mounting pressure from local, international CSOs and human rights groupings cautioning the LNP to provide or release information regarding the investigation into the matter.

The battle between the LNP’s IG and CDC’s Chairman Morlu became few hours after the House of Senate summoned Sudue for questioning over the flogging of his Deputy Inspector General for Operations, Marvin Sackor.

During questioning before the Honorable Senate, Police IG informed members of that August Body that Morlu and Gray whom the police considered as ‘persons of interest’ are not cooperating with police’s investigators as they have refused to appear before the LNP for inquiry.

The CDC Chairman, Mulbah Morlu in reaction to the IG claims, posted on his Facebook page on August 22, 2019 alleging that police Inspector General, Patrick Sudue lied on him when he appeared before members of the senate on Thursday, August 22, 2019.

Morlu in his Facebook post also claimed IG Sudue did not issue him any communication as stated before members of the Liberian Senate in the on-going investigation into the alleged assault on LNP’s Deputy Inspector General for Operations, Marvin Sackor at the headquarters of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and demand the IG to retract his statement to the house in the sooner possible time.
