CAF PickS Liberian Referee Hassan Corneh for U-17 Championship in Morocco

MONROVIA-Liberian FIFA Badge referee Hassan Zinnah Corneh has been selected among several referees for the 14th edition of the Total Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

The tournament will take place from 13 to 31 March 2021 in the North African state of Morocco.

This will be the second youth tournament engagement for Corneh in recent time having officiated in the 2020 WAFU U-20 Championship in Senegal.

The fast-growing Liberian referee also officiated a 2021 Africa Cup Nations qualifiers match between Niger and Ethiopia last year.

The 32-year old joined the Liberia Football Referee Association (LIFRA) in 2015 and when on to gain promotion as a national league match official that same year.

He became a FIFA badge referee in 2017 and has since gone on to officiate in the CAF Champions League, Confederation Cup, Nations Cup qualifiers, as well as youth tournaments.

Meanwhile the draw for the tournament was conducted on Wednesday, 24 February 2021 in Nouakchott, Mauritania with hosts Morocco   kicking off against Uganda in the opening match in Rabat on 13 March.

CAF Director of Competitions Samson Adamu conducted the draw, assisted by Mauritania’s legend Mustapha Fall. This will be the first edition in Africa U-17 Cup of Nations to have expanded to 12 teams instead of eight.

The top four teams of the tournament would have normally qualified for the 2021 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru as the CAF representatives. However, FIFA decided on 24 December 2020 to cancel the tournament due to COVID-19 pandemic
