Gbarnga, Bong County — The Ministry of Health has assigned Dr. Mamawah George Annan at C.B. Dunbar Maternity Hospital as its new Medical Directress or Director in Gbarnga, Bong County.

  1. B. Dunbar is Liberia’s only maternity hospital in central Liberia, which is only specialized in maternity’s health in rural Liberia with a catchment community of over sixty thousand people and a huge number of patients, predominantly pregnant women, baby mothers, and children flocking the facility for medical treatment daily in Gbarnga.

The hospital also caters to patients with maternal complications from border towns and villages within the Republic of Guinea.

Dr. Annan took over from Dr.Cynthia Blapood who served as medical Directress for the hospital for six months.

Speaking at the turning over ceremony over the weekend at the hospital in Gbarnga, Dr. Blapood said there were challenges, but her administration succeeded in the running of the hospital due to collaborated efforts from the administration of the C.B. Dunbar and the leadership of Bong County.

Dr. Blapood, who is now assigned to the Bong County Health Team as Health Officer for the County said under her administration at the C.B. Dunbar, the hospital was able to achieve stable electricity at the facility.

Dr. Blapood further said that under her administration, she was able to strengthen the record room of the hospital in order to have a proper record of patients being admitted and discharged at the maternity hospital in the County.

The C.B. Dunbar outgoing Medical Directress then called on Dr. Annan to work collectively with the hospital’s administration and Nurses in meeting the needs of patients coming to the only maternity hospital in the County.

Additionally, the C.B. Dunbar Hospital outgoing Medical Directress was gowned by the administration of the hospital for her tremendous contribution to the development of the hospital in the County.

At the same time, Dr. Mamawah George Annan called for a collaborative effort in improving the running of the hospital.

She assured Nurses that under her administration C.B. Dunbar will not only focus on maternal health, but will cater to other health needs of patients, noting that there will be staff’s development at the national and international levels to make C.B.
