BREAKING NEWS: Search Uncovers Nothing At Rep. Kolubah’s House

By R. Joyclyn Wea

The Monrovia City Court issued a “Search and Seizure Warrant” on District #10 Representative Yekeh Kalubah to search his resident on the Old Road following a complaint by Government of receiving tip up of an alleged weapon brought into the Country by the Lawmaker.

Monrovia City Court Judge Kennedy Peabody issued the writ as a result of an application from Montserrado County Chief Prosecutor, Cllr. Edwin Martins consistent with Chapter 11, section 11.1&2 of the Criminal Procedural Law of Liberia.

Government writ for Search and seizure Warrant comes barely two days to the much talked about June 7 save the state protest in Liberia.

Chapter 11, section 11.1&2 of the criminal procedural law states that “a search warrant may be issued by magistrate, justice of peace, or any other judicial officer empowered to perform such function whose jurisdiction encompasses the area within the property sought is located.”

While section 11.2 of the criminal procedural law also states that “A warrant may be issued under the provisions of this chapter to search for and seize the following property: stolen or embezzled property, illicit, forfeited, or prohibited property, contraband, and instruments or other articles designed or intended for use, or which are or have been used, as a mean of committing a criminal offense.”

Prior to Cllr. Edwin Martins application to the Court, the District #10 lawyer surrendered himself Wednesday June 5, 2019 to ECOWAS executives who escorted him to the headquarters of the Liberia National Police after being accused by authority of the Liberia National Police for allegedly ordering the flogging of a 23-year-old boy in the district for stealing his Smartphone.

The writ was issued after a heated clash between security personnel, supporters of Representative Kolubah and some students of the University of Liberia particularly the Students Unification Party (SUP) demanding the release of the lawmaker.

But following the search by Government through law enforcement officers, nothing was discovered in the home of the honorable man.

Accordingly, pundits believe government is only using this as a strategy to raise more fear in the minds of citizens and give a bad signal to the international community about the peaceful assembly of aggrieved citizens.

They also hold that it is another intent by national Government to take citizens focus from the actual happening in the Country.
