MONROVIA-A presidential aspirant, Milton Nathaniel Barnes has vowed to ensure a robust economic reform if elected President in the October 10, Legislative and Presidential Elections.
According to him, his leadership will formulate a strategy that will combat corruption, emphasizing that corruption is a serious barrier that the country is confronted with.
Mr. Barnes mentioned that corruption has caused Liberians to lot millions of dollars and opportunities that need to be eradicated.
“We must revisit how we spend money, managing our cost, while we have to buy 80 thousand dollars in a car for an official of the government, while a member of the legislature makes one hundred times what a teacher makes, it is a waste, “he said.
Speaking Thursday, May 25, 2023, on local media, the former Liberian Ambassador to the United Nations who is vying for the presidency, said Liberia needs a leader with integrity, credibility, and experience including humility stressing that he possesses all those characteristics.
Amb. Barnes who in early 2022, announced his intention to run as an independent candidate in the October 10 2023 presidential election, noted that a leader must humble himself or herself before God and the people of Liberia.
Commenting on public service, the former Liberian diplomat asserted that public officials are not to enhance their financial standing but to provide services.
He said the government under his leadership will manage the revenue bases and prevent tax evasion.
The former Liberian Finance Minister highlighted the importance of developing the revenue capacity with a system that will impact the economic viability of the country.
The presidential aspirant added that his government will work intensively on the justice system.
