MONROVIA-The former Chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Liberia Cllr Jerome Verdier has accused the government of Liberia of training over Eight thousand Militia which was inclusive of those known as “zogos” to help go after Liberians.
He made the statement when he appeared as a guest on Spoon Talk on Sunday.
Cllr. Verdier alleged that these “militias “ were trained by the Liberia National Police Academy and some beaches in Liberia. He added that the headquarter of this group is the late Munah Pelham-Youngblood father’s building in Monrovia.
The counselor at law mentioned that the Weah-led government has a plan to rig the upcoming 2023 elections so as to regain state power. Therefore, the Main aim of training these militias is to intimidate citizens from coming out to protest the result of the election.
Verdier disclosed that the government strategy is tyrannical.
“ Liberians should not allow gangsters to match on them and destroy their homes, let them arm themselves in self-defense.
I am not talking about weapons, but they should get ready to defend themselves. “ he clarified.
He stated that the government permits the circulation of Drugs and directly accused Madam Nora Finda Bundoo, Chief of protocol to the president of being the one supplying money to “zogos” to buy drugs. He announced that Jamaica Resort is a hub for drug distribution. These allegations could not be verified.
Cllr. Verdier who has been a staunch critic of this government is an Executive director of the International Justice Group based in the United States with its sole objective of helping people acquire justice across Liberia and beyond.
According to him, his organization is also working on a project that could see some officials of the Weah-led administration be brought to justice for corruption and other wrongdoings in Liberia.
