It is often said that ‘Give a man his flowers while he is still alive so that he may smell it before his death’; give honor to whom honor is due’ and that ‘too much of everything is a mess’.
After winning the highest post in the land (Presidency) at the back of a mixed antic education campaign slogans in 2017 and his subsequent takeover of the mantle of authority at the helm of power in Liberia, the Liberian leader, George M. Weah has since received two separate honorary doctorate degrees from two higher institutions of learning in his native country, Liberia.
The first was from the Cuttington University in Suacoco, Bong County in early 2018 later followed by the nation’s highest institution of learning, the University of Liberia on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.
All along the journey to becoming President (2005 & 2017, Vice President (2011), Senator (2014) and finally Liberia’s 24th President, some supporters and partisans of the governing party have given blind eyes to the importance of education in several ways.
Famous amongst them were; “You know book you not know book, I will vote for you; educated (book) people failed this country, it’s not (da na) book we will eat and you don’t need book to develop a nation’ just to name a few.
Some of the slogans were proudly taken into consideration by President George M. Weah when he knowingly appointed and misplaced several of his current cabinet members (some college dropped outs and below).
In 2011, the slogan was again mixed and contradictory when supporters of the consistently inconsistent political leader of the CDC (Vice Standard Bearer then) when they (supporters of the CDC) took to the streets of Monrovia singing “Weah brought degree he didn’t bring gun”.
Since the conferral of the two honorary doctorate degrees on the Liberian leader by the two higher institutions of learning, supporters and partisans of the soccer legend have since resolved to preferably call the 24th President of Liberia “Dr. Dr. George M. Weah”.
As it stands, President Weah is poised to shortly receive another Honorary Doctorate Degree (his 3rd) from the Tubman University in Maryland County by next week.
The disclosure was made by the ELBC’s Maryland County Correspondent, Emmanual Wilson on the Super Morning Show (SMS) on Thursday, March 7, 2019.
Journalist Wilson quoted authorities of the Tubman University (TU) as preparing to organize an extra ordinary Convocation ceremony during the visit of President Weah at which time the administration of TU is expected to confer an Honorary Doctorate Degree on the Liberian leader.
The ceremony is cleverly being planned ahead of the visit of President Weah into Maryland and other Southeastern counties including Grand Kru.
The visit is meant for President Weah to have frankly developmental discussions with major stakeholders in that part of the country with road connectivity and agricultural assessment being top on the agenda as enshrined in Pillar #2 of the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD).
Meanwhile, fresh report from the port city of Harper says massive clean-up activities are being carried out by county and city council authorities in collaboration with the youth and student community aimed at giving the city a face lift ahead of the President’s visit to that part of the country.
