HARPER, Maryland County — The Maryland County Joint Security Enforcement Team convened its inaugural monthly meeting on Friday, July 31, 2025, at the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) local office. The landmark meeting welcomed newly deployed personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), marking a strengthened commitment to security collaboration across the county.
The event brought together high-level representatives from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Region 5 Liberia National Police (LNP) Chief of Operations, heads of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), LIS, prison officials, and other key security stakeholders.
According to Abdul Jallahquay, Chairman of the Maryland County Joint Security and County Commander of the LIS, the gathering served to officially welcome the AFL and enhance operational synergy among local security forces.
“It was an acquaintance meeting to discuss key issues aimed at improving the operations of the joint security in Maryland County,” said Jallahquay in a phone interview with this paper.
The AFL deployment focuses on patrolling key waterways, including the Cavalla River and Atlantic Ocean, as well as safeguarding border points near the Liberia–Côte d’Ivoire crossing.
The soldiers, working in rotating shifts, will collaborate with the Border Patrol Marine Unit to ensure robust security coverage.
In a social media post following the meeting, County LDEA Commander Moses Birr called on residents to play an active role in community safety by reporting criminal activities.
Region 5 LNP Chief of Operations, J. Max Roberts, praised the initiative, stating:
“Strong collaboration among security agencies is the key to reducing crime and ensuring the safety of every resident in Maryland County.”
The joint security strategy aims to strengthen border security, combat illegal activities, and enhance law enforcement coordination throughout the county.
